RORY (was Pebbles) [Aged 4 years]

Adopted by
Megan Butchard and Tom Cutajar

Fostered by : Erin Reuben (St Ives)

Her story:
Pebbles is a 4 year old (born 26/12/2007) tan & white girl who was reluctantly surrendered by her owner as she was not getting along with one of his other dogs (a male Rottweiler). She lost her left hind leg as a pup from a birth defect but it does not slow her down at all! I am sure Pebbles feels she is just a normal little beagle as that is certainly how she acts.

Hi Gwenda and Erin,

Megan and I thought you would like an update on how Rory (the beagle formerly known as Pebbles) is doing.

It's like Rory has been with us since she was a pup, she has settled in very well and we love to come home and see her smiling face and wagging tail. She is the most amazing and happy dog in the world, her tail definitely would go into the running for a "most wagged" award.

Rory loves road trips; as soon as the garage opens she runs up to her door and waits to jump in. She will sniff around a dog park for hours and although initially she was quite wary of other dogs and people she now runs up to say hi to everybody, or snuggles up to us on the lounge at night. We also love the look on everyones face at the park when she decides to go for a run. She outpaces most other dogs and brings a smile to everyones face.

The only time we notice her missing leg is when she comes up to us to have a scratch because she just can't reach, when we start rubbing behind her ear she gets the biggest grin on her face and rolls on her back. I also had to build a ramp to the dog door because she chooses to run outside at a million miles an hour and sometimes forgets there is a small drop on the other side.

We also have taken her to training occasionally and she once got in trouble for "not sitting correctly" from an instructor. You can imagine the look of surprise on her face when she realised why. She has been doing well though and will wait patiently (sort of) for food and will stay and come. She seems to have mistaken the word sit for "come here quickly so you can have a treat" though. Even whispering the word at the other end of the house will cause her to come bounding down and sit in front of you looking up at expectingly.

Her and Atticus are also now best friends, she puts up with him being a mischievous puppy more than she probably should, but makes up for it by stealing his bones and toys and sitting in a corner on top of them whilst chewing her own. Despite this when they are separated she always gets up to see where he is gone and make sure he is still around. We often come downstairs to find them cuddled up together sharing a dog bed or lounging in the sun alongside each other.

We would love for you to put up Rory's story on the website, we encourage everyone who talks to us to think about getting a rescue dog. Rory has convinced Megan's sister in law into adopting a Beagle too. You may hear from her soon if a dog comes up for adoption that catches her eye.

Regards Tom and Megan
