Notes from Patch's new family: 3 March 2010
Sorry I haven't been in touch. Patch has definitely
found his forever home I've been away for two weeks but
while I've been gone Patch has obviously settled in even
more than he had before I went. He is even answering to
his name, we thought he was deaf at first!
He has a new sister, Indi, who is 12 weeks old and
she was here when he arrived home. We were worried how
he would cope with her being so full on but they have
settled in well, although he does ask to go for a walk
when he's had enough of her
He is so quiet without any of the usual beagle
behaviours we are used to. He certainly hasn't replaced
Bob but he has helped the family grieve and found his
own place in the family.
5 August 2010
Its been 6 months since Patch came to live with us
and I thought I would send an update on his progress.
He has settled in well. It took him a while to get
used to our pup Indi but they eventually sorted they
rankings out. Patch is very much in charge and as you
can see in the photos attached Indi knows her place
always sitting just slightly to the rear. Patch is also
very loving however and usually allows Indi to be first
for things like putting on their harness and lead,
getting in and out of the car and sometimes being hand
fed, but occasionally that beagle instinct kicks in when
it comes to food and he just can't help himself!
He is a good weight now and is getting better at
hunting for his food although Indi still runs circles
around him so we have to feed him from a bowl too. He
doesn't like to play ball games or chase the kids much
prefering to watch from the side lines but occasionally
he likes to play 'rough' with Raymond. He is closest to
Raymond and spends every afternoon in the vegie patch
with him however we had to fence it when he decided to
pick some vegies himself. He was very cute though
keeping them in a pile and presenting them to Raymond
when he got home.
Patch has been a wonderful addition to our family and
we love him very much. Thank you to Monique and Matt for
taking care of him, they are wonderful people. Adopting
an older beagle was definitely a good decision for our
family.
